Maybe we could see if there's a .desktop file, and if there is, then ask if
the user wants to open the program, or highlighting the program à la XP.

I believe the offering to open a program after install -used- to be a
feature. A possible (?) issue with that, that I see, would be when
installing libraries or the likes. For those it certainly wouldn't make
sense to offer to open. In other words, how are you going to determine
