I think you're right about the menu problem, it's solvable. As for favicons, I don't know, maybe it could be a miniature version of the icon on the left panel, with the same background color, or perhaps just the icon. Perhaps it might not be very pretty to see, or be too much stuff (with the a

I think those ideas are very good. A greyed out menu would show that it was out of focus and provide a contrast to the lit up local menu of the almost maximized window, and clicking the menu would bring the maximized app to focus and re-lit its menu. What does anyone else think about this?
