I am not saying the naughty tool. I am saying something about the
notification like xfce, gnome ,etc.
You can install notification-daemon and run it in the background.
It supports all the good stuff like Images, buttons (called actions),
text styling..

vmware version:7.0.0 build-203739
Host OS:windows xp
Guest OS:debian 6.0(s) squeeze
Desktop Environment:GNOME 2.6
I have sucessfully installed vmware tools,and I can enter full screen
inside gnome successfully,everything is OK.
But when I switch to awesome,awesome can not
It's likely vmtoolsd isn't running?
I can't recall exactly when/how it gets started but I recall in the past
having to configure it myself.

You can use 'libnotify' in your own scripts:
/usr/bin/notify-send -t 5000 -i logo.gif "Here is your message";
