This patch fixes the config.log problem of overwriting the previous
config.log even if you just invoke configure --help. One problem
remains that should be fixed - the temporary log file (conf-log.tmp)
is left behind in the current directory if you run configure --help,
but should be removed when
This patch removes a race condition in config.status.
The culprit is the initial tests in config.status for finding how to
link files and how to test for executable files. In this phase, the file
"conftest.file" is created and removed in the current directory twice.

That's because 2.49c didn't have the pathsep deduction yet.
The current CVS autoconf should find those apps.
Can someone give me a command line for picking up the most recent
cvstree for autoconf?
