Went ahead and enabled:
echocancel => allways
echocan_train => 100
echocan_taps => 128
on every box, on every link.
Restarted asterisk (by issuing restart now) on every box and all hell
broke loose, calls would come in, PDD was up the roof and then this
error:

what version of dahdi, chan_ss7, sangoma version, asterisk are you running.

My error was in /etc/dahdi/system.conf
I was using
span=1,2,0,ccs,hdb3,crc4
Now I use
span=1,2,0,ccs,hdb3
And everything works well!
