The matter is with the greater density of port is with the chan drivers.
chan_ss7 has no issue with higher densisty of ports, but the sip driver of
asterisk sometimes gets segfault. If you want to use the ast sip driver,
better to look into the code and do the bug fixing for the segfault.

decide how many E1 you are going to connect and with how many box.
If you decide to use more that one box with one sig chan, than you have to
use chan_ss7. Because libss7 still works only on one box with one/multiple
sig chan. chan_ss7 also has commercial support which you can buy from them.

Yeah, it can be a bit daunting.
The choice between libss7 or chan_ss7, is still a matter of debate. We had
pretty good luck with chan_ss7. Using a custom made server with quad core
Xeon processor and 4 GB of RAM, we put 8 x E1 into one machine. Best of
all, chan_ss7 supported sharing of 1 signa
Thanks Hassan,
Yea, I have been reading the Asterisk-SS7 threads but everyone has their
own opinion...
Main question is what to use libss7 or chan_ss7?
And what to install first?
1. dahdi kernel
2. dahdi tools
3. libss7 or chan_ss7
4. Asterisk (1.4 or 1.6)

The mailing archives have quite a few topics on this. If you're familiar
with Aterisk, you should be able to do it.
In our initial attempt, we had a large stumbling block, as the telco switch
in question was an Ericsson switch, which probably has a few SS7
differences. But did come across anothe
Thanks yo all...
This route is for termination... Telecom is providing E1's with SS7
signaling... I have been looking around for solutions and the ready made
solution like SMG box/Quintum Unified Signaling Gw/Cisco PGW2200 are
very costly...
I have the Digium hardware in hand just need to setu
Sangoma SMG requires Sangoma telephony cards.
But it would be helpful to know any other information which you can share with
what you need.

No licenses needed for the chan_ss7 or libss7 implementations.

Abdul,
Thanks for your info... much appreciate.
Do I need to buy any licenses for SS7? Sangoma SMG requires some sort of
license in order to work... Do I need licenses for Digium cards?
Cheers,

got 4 x TE420 T1/E1 card and I need to setup SS7 link in remote
location. Can anyone show me the right direction?
1) Server specs. required to support two or four TE420 cards.
2) OS required.
3) Asterisk version
