I have tried to install ALSA-0.9.6 and 0.9.0rc6 both on my Linux machine P4/VT8235
with kernel 2.4.20.
However I could not make them work fine.
They all work for recording but not for replaying.
Also during installing of version 0.9.6 which is the latest one, I could not make
level up of PCM
B is wrong or broken?

In my application, I usually used /dev/audio device for audio
recording/playing.
But with P4 and VIA8235 chipset M/B, I could not use /dev/audio and
/dev/dsp devices.
If I try, I have these errors:
#cat a > /dev/dsp

So, my conclusion is that the only problem is related to the "alsactl" or
alsa libraries which supports alsactl.
What can I do to solve no sound output on this kind of M/B?
