Hello. I don't know as much about Linux as I would like to. I am
working on MythTV, following this guide here:

This is the first time I have ever worked with any s/pdif device. I am
working in Fedora Core 4 and KDE. I can't seem to get s/pdif out of
turn off KDE's control of the sound in the
preferences. Nothing comes out of my sound system.

I'm not sure what you mean. I think toslink is my only option:

Live card so
I can here it through my speakers. Is this possible? What
configuration do I need to do? I can currently see the input
signal over ADAT using the hdspmixer application, but no sound coming
out of my speakers. 8(
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Running Gentoo with alsa-tools-1.0.10 installed. I used to have
the hdspmixer application, but now, sadly, it's gone after my last
update world. What gives?
