FWIW, I have two USB audio adapters that don't work under Suse 11.1. One
is the Griffin Imic. Both work under windows.

However, if you want my 2 cents, I think for two channel recording, you
are far better off just buying a digital recorder. Pull the memory card
and read it to the computer for editing.

I have two sound cards SBLive and RME9652.
I my asound.conf file where it lists mixer for SBLive ("SigmaTel STAC9721/23")
There are no mixer listed for the RME. Any suggestions as two which Mixer
would work best for this card? Also what would the proper entry be for that

I'm no ALSA or Linux expert, but I have learned a couple of things I
haven't seen elsewhere that might help people looking at this list.
I have two sound "cards" on my machine. A Soundblaster Live Value
(Gateway OEM version), and a Plantronics DSP-500 USB headphone. Here's
my /etc/modules.conf
ersion 0.9.5.
Compiled on Jul 19 2003 for kernel 2.4.20.
Any ideas?

You need the _configured_ kernel source that matches your installed kernel.
Either get the pre-configured kernel source from your red hat cd's or
download and build your own kernel. The file version.h does not exist

For some reason, upping the volumes does not unmute anything. Make
sure you hit "M" to unmute it and then up the volume.

The error "no such device" does not tell you anything. The alsa driver
returns ENODEV any time it encounters any type of error. So "no such

Observed problems:
1. run alsamixer, the Chip name as it appears in top left of display says
TriTech TR28602. But the chip is supposed to be EMU10K1 for SoundBlaster Live
on-board sound/codec

AHA! Silly me -- there's a setting in rosegarden-4 to "choose the
MIDI output device" and the default need only be set to the Timidity
device!
I do not pretend to understand anything more than that it makes a sound
