I have written to linux forum and verified that
with Ensoniq 5880B [AudioPCI] on real computer with 2.6.30 it works
correctly.
I am using it in LinuxFromScratch in VMWare. So maybe this is the problem.

By the way, you can still play mlp audio (true hd) if you have a nvidia card.
Multichannel hdmi is now supported and will probably be in next kernel
release.
Using the repository version of nvhdmi I'm able to play mutlichannel mlp
tracks in 96/24 :) :) :)

I'm running on a debian lenny workstation the Creative Labs SB Audigy LS
Soundcard, but there comes no sound out. (I'm almost frustrated)
Speakers are connected well and power on.

OK, are you trying to run it using oss or alsa (ie what programs are you
running to try out the sound card?) Try for example to do
aplay /usr/share/sounds/KDE_Beep_Ahem.wav
(or any other .wav file on your system).
