Turning on/off EAPD didn't work, but turning on head phones did work :-)
I made a mistake and turned on 'ADC/DAC Loopback' at first and didn't
understand why everything gets stuck :-)

I'm trying to set up a laptop for sound processing, following the
Planet CCRMA guidelines. I have RedHat 7.2, kernel 2.4.8, ALSA
0.9.0-18 on a Dell Latitude CPi D266XT. My sound interface is the
Roland USB UA-30. I'm unclear as to how to set the modules, etc, so
that ALSA will use the UA-30.

Thank you for the information. However still cannot get the ad1816a to be
recognized by my system.
In checking further I did in fact have the snd-card-ad1816a.o file in the
/lib/modules/2.4.9/misc directory along with the snd-ad1816a.o. Here is a
listing:
