I'm no alsa expert at all!!!
I have audigy 2 and onboard VIA 8233 the audigy is device 0 and the via
is device 1 though I don;t think that matters.
Also I've midi devices and a bt878 and for midi applications alsa is for
me essential cause its actually easyish
If I try your arecord comm
i've had to do the same thing, i can only record on device 1 with my VIA 8233.
i never use oss much though, and definately not for recording audio...
