Completely remove old modules in this directory by
typing
rm -rf /lib/modules/(your kernel version)/misc
I don't have a /misc directory.
I tried deleting everything under sound and reinstalling but that didn't
help.
# ll /lib/modules/2.4.20-pre8-ac3/kern
