Hi all.
I have a via8233 onboard chip and I'm still not able to play midi files.
First: Some people told me, the via8233 has no midi-synth. Is this true? This would
mean, the windows drivers for this chip are doing software-synthesis. Can ALSA do
this? (Yes, I know, timidity can.)

I tried it. At first sight it seems to work and there is no noise anymore. It's ok

Hi!
Sorry for the english.
Synthesizer and sequencer are two different things.
I dont have a via8233 based card but, i think, this card dont have hardware
synthesizer, you need to use a software synthesizer like timidity or
fluidsynth, then you can use the ALSA sequencer with this porgs.

perhaps mpu401 works independently from via8233.
please try snd-mpu401 driver additionally with a proper irq.
