[Alsa-user] usb midi configuration

I've set up a Midiman Midisport 2x2 over the weekend and I seem to have gotten it mostly working. It's on a compaq laptop with an ess maestro. I'm a bit puzzled by this though -- all four ports show up as 'inputs'. Does anyone know if this is to be expected? [root@localhost bin]# cat /proc/asou
