I've never compiled the kernel myself. I am using the kernel that was
installed when I installed the Debian distribution. Later, I downloaded the
kernel headers so that I could install modules. ALSA is the first module

I am running Debian (Sid) with the AD1985 on the P4PE
board. I have installed 0.9.6 according to the
instructions for my specific sound card.
When I get to "modprobe snd-intel8x0" the command does
not complete because snd-rawmidi keeps initialising.
