[Alsa-user] Headphones not working after OS upgrade

I recently installed Ubuntu 20.04 on my computer, to replace 18.04 on another partition. Both systems are still bootable, and they share a /home folder on another partition. For some reason, headphones plugged into the front of my computer do not show up in 20.04, although they work fine in 18.04

So I need help. Not with installation. I have ubuntu 7.04 installed and Alsa comes preinstalled and it works ok. Except I have one glitch that I havent been able to fix for months. I get terrible sound through headphones. At high volumes its static but fine at volumes at which I can barely hear it

Hello, I am using the VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller. The problem is, the headphones socket does not work .. it does on windows tho, so it's not hardware related. I am using 2.6.18 (debian stock kernel) and the appropiate modules are loaded .. in addition, its a no
