I have a machine (alienware m15x) running sid.
I cannot have sound working properly.
the output of lspci is:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev 04)
on the alsa website ICH8 seems not to be supported but I am not sure.

I have ALSA 0.9.2 on a conexant CX20468 (via8233). I'm trying to route the CD
output to a minidisc recorder via the SPDIF optical output: sync is ok, but no
signal comes out. Only PCM streams (e.g., from wav/mp3 files) are correctly
