No need for any asoundrc, just configure jack as follows:

Now I just need a decent piano synth... I hope to make 'The Grand 2'
work with wine, jack and wineasio

8 inputs, 8 outputs. As far as I know the 8R has 8 pre-amplified
inputs, while the Ultra's pre-amplified ones are only 4.

Your patch misses the additions to usbquirks.h.
Try the patch I posted to alsa-user (change the product id to fit the FTU):
http://www.mail-archive.com/alsa-user@lists.sour
I tried also this[1] patch instead of alsa-git but it does not work too.
I saw also that alsa 1.0.23 renamed usbaudio.c to card.c, but card.c
is completely different from usbaudio.c!

The FTU(8R) doesn't export any descriptors for the mixer and the DSP
unit. Hence the driver doesn't know that they exi

I don't think that *this* patch will make it into the main code base. It
has flaws, e.g. 44100 Hz don't work, there's no mixer support although
the mixer seems to behave mostly like a standard USB mixer.
So before the Alsa developers adopt it in the main line some things have
to be worked out.

Thanks to Mr. Clemens to Mr. Felix and to Mr. Salvo!
It is not necessary to compile the kernel,
Just apply the patch before compiling alsa-driver with this command
# cd / usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver-1.0.22.1/sound # patch-p1
