As you say, it was a matter of using the 'headphone' control to make
sound louder.
Now I'm wondering why use the 'headphone' control to control the
'master' volume! Maybe some ALSA developer can explain us the reason...

The latest CVS version of ALSA worked for me. I have now a functional
sound, but, sadly, with very volume, even with mixers at maximum.
Please tell me if you discover the cause.
I posted a question to this list about low volume so it sounds like it
is more than the als4000 driver.
