Thank you for your quick response, however I have now tried 0.9rc7 and found
exactly the same problem to exist. However I do note a very slight thump
from the speakers as the driver loads now.

Try to use ALSA 0.9rc7 or CVS.
Versions before ALSA 0.9rc7 doesn't suports Audigy2.
