When I attempt to restart ALSA, I get the following error messages:

I am using a CM-8738 PCI sound card built into my ASUS motherboard and
RH 8.0. I have tried using ALSA both with tarballs from the site and
the RPM packages from www.freshrpms.net - both to the same effect. ALSA
sound working, but OSS not. (I'm not using the alsa-oss library, by the
way.)
