version 2.3.1 (I dont yet want to downgrade for fear of breaking other
things)
could this be the cause of the seg fault?
anything else I should try ?

Hello list,
I'm trying to get Alsa going to work with jMAX . compilation is
apparently ok, alsamixer comes up and I unmute all the channels, but
when I try using command line "aplay" I get the following :
