In alsamixer you need to turn capture on. You do this by going to
the input in question and hitting the space bar. Then you should see
some text saying capture. Make sure you adjust the input level as well.

I have just installed my Midiman Delta 1010LT sound card, compiled the
alsa drivers for it and tried to use it but can't get any sound output.
I am also using the envy24control application.
When using xmms with the oss plugin all the pcm channels in envy24control
show output but I can
