The error "no such device" does not tell you anything. The alsa driver
returns ENODEV any time it encounters any type of error. So "no such
device" translates into "something went wrong". Without knowing more
details, it is impossible to troubleshoot this sort of problem.

That's right, you've nailed it. We're just stupid windows users
searching around for "setup.exe", LOL! If it doesn't say "next"
or "finish" then it's too advanced. I should just quit trying to
get my Extigy to work now that I know the real underlying
problem. How stupid of me not to see it! To

How about going a step further and explaining how to keep these modules from
loading in the first place? Every time I boot I have to go to a console
prompt and unload the OSS drivers manually and then rmmod/insmod the alsa
drivers. I've searched through all of my startup files and I can't find
I'm still getting this error when running alsamixer:
alsamixer: function snd_mixer_load failed: Invalid argument
After some debugging, it appears as though a bunch of mixer settings get
loaded until the one named "Digital In Playback Source". After stepping

The Creative Extigy is listed in the "Supported Cards" table on the alsa
site but I can't get it working. I followed the instructions carefully
but when I type "alsamixer" at the command prompt I get this response:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_op
ersion 0.9.5.
Compiled on Jul 19 2003 for kernel 2.4.20.
Any ideas?
