When I try to run alsamixer, I get snd_ctl_open failed for default: Sound protocol is compatible. If I try to run amixer, I get Mixer attach default error: sount protocol is not compatible. Does anyone know what this means and how to correct it? Art ___

[Alsa-user] No sound from maestro3 in Inspiron 8100

I installed alsa driver 0.5.12a drivers as the upgrade to 2.4.17 kernel apparently didnot get along with the old maestro3 drivers. Now the problem is during boot, it comes up with no mixer config in /etc/asound.conf, you have to unmute your card! There is no /etc/asound.conf, there is a /etc/asou
