I had initially posted this to the alsa-devel list but haven't
received a response and thought that maybe that was the wrong list. If
this is the incorrect place for this please let me know.
I am attempting to upgrade from Ubuntu version 10.04 to version 12.04. Version
10.04 has ALSA version 1.0.2

I solved the problem it should be caused by a ground loop, I change the
eletric plugin so it use a different ground and the white noise is
vanished, so it wasn't related with alsa or module configuration.

with a perturbing crackling.
The kernel used is 3.5.0-18 generic x86_64
The alsa version is 1.0.25 and the driver selected by udevd is the
snd_hda_intel
