I've started Ubuntu with the Unity-Desktop and there it was no problem. The
card worked fine, although the output seems to rather soft.
Maybee it's a problem of the xfce-desktop.

I have to admit that I don't understand what You mean by pcm-outputs.
After typing aplay -l the Saffire USB card is again recognized as card
number 3.
