i am using a Asus G71GX laptop, with the hda-intel driver.
In alsamixer, there are the playback channels:
Master, Headphone, Speaker, Bass Speaker, PCM, Mic, Mic Boost, S/PDIF s/PDIF
Default, Internal Mic
and Internal Mic Boost.
The Headphones Mixer is doing nothing as far is i can tell but th

Why the cube root? Why not the log, which is what dB
