I finally figured it out- bad MIDI cable. I hadn't even thought about this,
because the cables were brand new, out of the box, but then again one should
always test a brand new cable. Embarrassing, and a total waste of time and

I have a problem. I have a atom/Ion based htpc and want to use HDMI and
SPDIF on the Ion to output 2 channels. I have configured everything with
the asound.conf file below and I get audio out of both HDMI and SPDIF
nicely. I have two problems:

I recently purchased a Lexicon Omega USB-Interface and tried to run it
with ALSA drivers - works super great!
But when I try to run it in Duplex mode with Jack, I get the following
