is it possible to define virtual sound card, which would be listed by
"aplay -l" and "aplay -L" ? And how ?
Most apps do NOT let me define concrete PCM device to use and some apps
are using direct "hw:x,y" - so workaround with different "default" per
app don't help too.

I have a Thinkpad R61i with the Conexant CX20549 HDA codec. A lot of the
controls are wrongly wired, with showstopping consequences, such as not
being able to change the mic capture level, resulting in intolerable
distortion.

Good to know there are another friend using the focusrite. I emailed focusrite
team, and they haven't tested with linux. They also admitted that saffire 6 USB
I am having a problem with HDMI audio on a Gigabyte H55M-S2H
motherboard. No matter what I try, I cannot get sound to the attached
TV over the HDMI link.
I think that the drivers are in place, and I don't get any errors when
trying different playback methods, I just don't get sound from the TV.

I've got a Intel D945GCLF2 with Intel HD Audio (ALC662, Realtek).
I am running gentoo (x86) and have installed alsa-1.0.21. Updating alsa
