is there any hardware control surface which can manage the volume
faders in Alsa? I want to build one myself, but I do not want to
reinvent the wheel ;)

current Harman Kardon amplifiers have an USB socket to plug a PC.I'd
like to know how it's seen by the computer: is it a simple sound device,
like all USB audio sticks, or is there any mean to control all functions
