on my new machine, when i run the 10.0.21 envy24control, even as root,
i get a continuous stream of "Unable to read peaks: No such file or
directory" and no sound. i straced it, saved profiles.conf files where
there were some ENOENTS, and got the same error; i compiled the tool
from source

I'm running linux 2.6.32-rc7 x86_64 on slackware64-current
(alsa-lib-1.0.21a).
My intel hda sound chipset is from realtek alc889a.
I'm unable to control the PCM (alsamixer, kde-kmix).
I have added 'options snd-hda-intel model=intel-alc889a'
to /etc/modprobe.d/sound, but no luck. PCM do
