I was running Debian etch, kernel 2.6.18 , on a computer with a SiS961 based
motherboard. The sound was perfect on both analog and SPDIF outputs.
Now I have installed lenny (a fresh install), with kernel 2.6.26 ; I also
installed kernel 2.6.20 from backports.org. With either of these, soun

first try to uninstall the alsa source code version. Because most of the
time the Debian version will work with your sound card. When grub boots
choose the second option (single user) Go to the the directory where
you downloaded and compiled the alse source code and type
"make uninstal

boot process hangs at cupsd. Also, when I am able to get into GDM and
