If you are already spending the money on a "good" microphone, I would recommend budgeting in a hardware compressor limiter or limiting pre-amp (you can't plug a mic directly into the PC anyway so the limiting pre-amp is probably cheaper) instead of relying on a software application. This will prev

Hello All, I am searching for a simple Linux ALSA or whatever command line AGC Mic Volume control utility. I want this utility to run ahead of the arecord function and actually adjust the digital potentiometer in the sound card hardware and not a post analog to digital conversion numeric solution.

Hello, I don't get any sound from my laptop (Medion MD 96282), which has a MCP51 High Definition Audio device from nVidia corporation. Ubuntu can find the chip, has the drivers but there is no sound at all. With my Ubuntu 8.04 istallation I could fix the problem by adding: options snd-hda-int
