Yes, because I clicked on the link and completed the captcha I was then
presented with. I'll probably get another one of those for this message

I'm building a monolithic Linux kernel, which means no modules.
I'd like to find out how I can upgrade ALSA in a kernel source
tree so I can build a complete kernel image with the latest
version of ALSA (1.0.17) on the latest Linux kernel (2.6.26.2)
that has an older ALSA (1.0.16).
I will post sep

By the way, our emails are getting out of sync. I already sent an email
about putting a notice on the BugTracker page.
I must use an email account on a different machine, not my own.
My machine is used for research business and is off-internet.

Rene: The homepage is a wiki so it surely does.
So getting an ALSA user account lets you modify the ALSA home page at will.
There is a concept I do not agree with.
Organization home pages should have one manager.
I actually thought about posting my bug report in the middle of the home
page
and
Can the ALSA web page managers please indicate on their pages which
ones are for development team members only and which are for general users.
I followed a link that said "I found a bug" and it led to the BugTracker
page
that wanted me to login. It had a button to create a new account, so I

I have sent a number of postings about problems installing ALSA.
(I have gone 10 months without sound, etc. etc. )
For those have not noticed, I am talking about an ALSA install on a system
that
does not have ALSA as the default sound driver. That is why I can reinstall
it after doing a kernel co
This may be of interest to the dev team:
depmod
- found a depmod in the Makefile
depmod -a $(kaversion) $(SYSTEM_MAP_OPT)
- according to man pages, the -a switch is for depmod.old
- this depmod.old may be going away in some new linux version

The statement about removing snd- prefixes from some names is not explicit.
It led me to believe that I needed to remove the snd- prefix
from all alsa names in modules.conf. That DID NOT WORK.
Actually it almost worked, it found the old OSS drivers which h
ALSA distribution should include a configure script file that can be
customized with settings, and saved by the user.
Saving the configure script file is recommended, as the ALSA src directory
may get deleted. The configure script file
records everything needed to recreate the users ALSA compile.
Successful ALSA, finally, after 10 months of no sound.
Installed ALSA 1.0.17, which has a fix for VT1617, after trying 1.0.9, and
1.0.16.
However, I had so many problems installing ALSA that I doubt that I ever
really tested the
previous ALSA versions.

My previous message said compiler install where it should have said KERNEL
install loses the ALSA drivers.
This is a rewrite and covers some new ground too.
This includes a suggested fix to the problem.
I have spent 10 months without sound ( VIA8237 ) on my machine because ALSA
would not work. I
