Hi All,
I'm having a lot of trouble with the Edirol UA-4FX USB/MIDI soundcard
in Ubuntu Gutsy. I saw the UA-3FX listed and hoped that the 4FX would
also work...
ALSA: 1.0.14
I tried the following:
aplay -l
List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices
card 1: UA4FX [UA-4FX], device 0: USB Audio [
I have internal HDA nForce sound card, and it sounds like sub and center
chanel swap outputs
Alsamixer's LFE slider control sub and center slider doesn't do anything
alsa -1.0.14

Hi group,
While reading the output from my sound device, how can I determine what
the volume level is? The options are mono, 8000, 8 bits per sample.
I have tried using volume = abs(byte-127), bit that returns either 255 or
0.

Well, no, being the sole user I presumed to run it from /home or, if
necessary, in sudo. Should I start over in su?

Well I found that when I am using runlevel 3 your solution is working
but not in runlevel 5. So I decided to reinstall Open Suse and to try
to see what is happening (are ATI drivers or something else
responsable). After basic opensuse installation (alsa 1.0.14) your

Hello!
There's one annoying inconvinience with snd_intel8x0 driver for Fujitsu
Siemens P7010 laptop. For whatever reason, the sound volume is
controlled only via the Headset volume. The setting of master does not
play any role. Since all of the desktop environments manipulate the
sound volume via

Hi All,
Bit of an odd one, so please bear with me here!
What I'm trying to do is write a bash script that can read the current
volume level coming from the microphone and then deal with certain
values (silence or noise detection).
Does anyone know of a way of 'grabbing' the current microphone lev

What hardware are you running? I have had this problem with my toshiba
laptop using an intel hda card which I fixed using the howto (which I
can't find to post atm). Post your hardware, then we can see where we'll
get to. (and I'll try and find that link regardless.)

Hi
I am running kernel 2.6.22-14 with Alsa 1.0.15 (in Ubuntu). The sound works
great, except for the headphone jack sense doesn't work at all. It works
normally under Windows (dual-boot), but with Linux plugging in headphones has
no effect - the speakers stay on and the headphones have no sound
