I'm trying to include Alsa support in 2.6.17.1 on an m68k architecture.
First problem was configuring the kernel, because sound/Kconfig has the
whole thing masked off with "IF !M68K". Can anyone tell me why? Am I
wasting my time?
Second problem, after blatantly hacking the IF statement

I am running on Fedora Core 6 and my sound card is recognized and
installed as snd-via82xx, which is correct.
ALSA version: 1.0.12
But the sound is not working:
speaker-test has the following result:

I've got a headless home server computer in a closet, a via8237 based
Abit AV8, with a Realtek ALC658 sound chip. The computer functions also
as a PVR and is connected to my amplifier with an optical toslink cable
and the video output is handled with directfb. I'm also running a dummy
