Thanks, I give it a try! I dont know why I did not consider it but it
seems to be perfect for my purposes.
I gues I am one of the very few people who use SOX. So thank you all for
your kind help on a subject that rather seems to be related to a
(missing) SOX documentation than to ALSA!

sox -t alsa -w -s plughw:1,1 -t cdr ... (then I pass the out
