Thanks to Stephane and Lee for helping out. I was able to get both of their recommended solutions working (Stephane - OSS, Lee - JACK). However being as stubborn as I am I was determined to getting it to work using only .asound.rc, so here it is

For example two edirol ua-25 connected to jack in order to have 4
channels for recording.
I guess it can be done without any problem, but there might be some
constraints...
