no no, out of question ! now i've made it work, I won't install another soundcard.

Hi all,
I recently installed Linux on a friends laptop (IBM ThinkPad 390X) and
it was all smooth sailing until I got around to installing ALSA.
Everything is installed and appears to work correctly, but the sound I
get when I try to play an mp3, wav or ogg the audio is completely
garbled. (ie. dis
I had dmix working (well, as best it did - the output would periodically
corrupt & start "skipping"; unpausing in xmms didn't work) and then all of a
sudden after an upgrade yesterday (I'm running Debian) apps started fighting
over the PCM device again. I check the /etc/alsa/alsa.conf file and
Hello all - I've been banging my head for two days now trying to get
this bug fixed...here's the scoop:
Here's the specs of my system:
- Gentoo 2004.0
- kernel 2.4.22-gentoo-r7
- alsa 1.0.3
- Creative SB Live! Value card
The emu10k1 module loads flawlessly into the kernel, however, whenever I

Hi,
I'm using the ALSA system on my notebook which uses an intel8x0
soundcard. I installed ALSA, and unmated and cranked everything up in
alsamixer. However, the sound is still very quiet and I have to strain
to hear audio being played.
Anyone have any ideas on what the problem is? Apologi

Hi,
First, excuse me for my poor english...
I purchase 2 MAudio Revolution 7.1 sound cards. I have to use the 8
stereo outputs of the cards separately. So I use this asound.conf file :
ctl.!default {
type hw
card 1
}

Please try to put the following in your /etc/asound.conf:
pcm.sekd {

Strange. There should always be a primary codec.
Please show the contents of /proc/asound/ca

Apparently, you have compiled soundcore into the kernel.

1001 means that the firmware hasn't been loaded.
What are the messages in the system log when you plug it in?

Hi,
If you want capture Line in.
in alsamixer
unmute and set volume for "Line In" and mute other source (CD,
Aux, ..)
set volume for "Analog Mix Capture" (for example to 100)
for mic
set volume for "Mic Capture" (for example to 100)
and if you need "Mic boost" too

I have been trying for days to figure this out and I believe it has stumped me -- I
cannot determine howto "capture" any input from any source, loading up alsamixer
doesn't let me capture any line (the top line where it would say CAPTUR isn't even
there) and kmix doesn't show any sliders on the

Hi,
Here is the way I get mine to work with ALSA:
- I installed ezusbmidi
- In the \etc\hotplug/blacklist, I put:
# Don't load the drivers
snd-usb-audio
audio
snd-midi
Because USB is setup before ALSA during the boot
- In my /etc/modules.conf, i had:
options snd-usb-audio enable=1 index=2

This error means that the ALSA drivers are not loaded or configured
correctly.
