Hi,
2) Optical Raw switch - it is used for AC3 passthrough. Should by
off for normal use (spdif out will play sound from pcm or alsa OSS
emulation) or on (spdif out will play sound from spdif device - AC3
stream - unaltered).
Why optical ??? Maybe because Optical and coaxial spdif output is 1
In xmms application, you must choose "control volume by soft" in options
==> preferences ==> config (when alsa plugin is select). ==> control
volume by soft.
xmms have volume controlled by soft.

Hello list
I'm still struggling with this Intel8x0 sound card and midi. I have a
couple of games that apparently require midi support for sounds. The
Intel8x0 (ICH2) does not support midi. Would it be possible to use
TiMidity to get midi functions out of ALSA?

Hello,
I've managed to get my Sound Blaster MP3+ USB functioning in
part. Playback works nicely and I can capture from the mic input.
But I've not been able to capture from the 'LINE-IN' inputs,
which is primarily what I'm interested in doing (ooh, so close!).
Is anyone doing this?

Hello,
I have the same problem with my Terratec Aureon 7.1; the only difference
in hardware between the Aureon 7.1 and the Revolution 7.1 is the content
of the eeprom and the digital ports (Aureon: optical, Revolution: electrical)
and it's therefore not surprising that the problems are the same (or

The ICE1712 supports only 10 or 12 channels with 24 bits.
Hi all
I'm new to the list so please bear with me.
I'm getting the error below using these alsa packages
libalsa2-1.0.2-3mdk
alsa-utils-1.0.2-1mdk
xmms-alsa-1.2.9-3mdk
libalsa-data-1.0.2-3mdk
libalsa2-devel-1.0.2-3mdk
I'm running Linux Mandrake 10.

You could make a backup of /sbin/modprobe, then replace it with a
script that logs all running processes. Don't do this if you do not
know what you're doing.

You have an ATI chipset.

Remove the OSS driver before loading the ALSA driver.

It's digital attenuation (degrades resolution, of course).

I have successfully make multiple applications(xmms,mplayer...) use the

Hello everyone,
I've had really great results with ALSA's ice1712 driver getting
pro-audio applications working. I've been constantly impressed at how
well things work!
However, I really can't figure out how to get it to do simple
things like playback music and IM boings ::-) I'

Try another kernel, the crash does not seem to be related to ALSA.

scratch that, apparently now only rear speakers do not work.
any ideas?

I removed alsa from 2.6.4 kernel and now have latest cvs drivers, and alsamixer works.
i turned up all masters, however, front and rear speakers still do not work, but
headphones do.

No, but this is to be excected. You can only use one set of ALSA
drivers, so you have to
btw, i am sure this has something to do with me not being able to control front
speakers through the mixer, since alsamixer, of course, will not work.

ok, since cvs alsa drivers refuse to compile if 2.6.4 has alsa support, i've just been
trying to use the sound regularly.
every once in a while the speakers would not work, but headphones would.
now the speakers never work, despite what i change in gnome's mixer app.
help? what setting make
Ok, so alsamixer will not work with extigy unless you use cvs or alsa 1.0.4 drivers,
but they won't compile if you are using 2.6.4 kernel with alsa enabled.
is there a way to get around this? i'm getting really sick of not being able to use a
mixer correctly.
