As an update. The existing install of alsaplayer still works but I can't
compile it anymore. I haven't tried any other apps.
Also, Quake2 sound now works fine. I didn't have to mess with any files in
/proc either.

I installed 1.0.0_rc1 tonight and went to build alsaplayer. I get these
messages and the build fails. Any ideas what's broken here and how to fix it?
Thanks.

I have own a USB Veo webcam, with an internal microphone, and whenever I
boot my Red Hat 9 system with it plugged in, ALSA works fine, though OSS
programs seem to try and use it as the soundcard. The OSS mixer shows a

Is there a simple way to set the default

I don't know if this already was repported.
Since I used pre1 or rc1, I have a problem with my ICE1712 driver (my
card is a DMX6Fire24/96) :
When alsa is starting to play a sound, before real playback I have 2 to
5 seconds of noise. With previous version of alsa I didn't have this

The latest version (1.0.0rc1) has some fixes for ALC655 and ALC658.
Apparently, it does support 44.1.

Apparently, your kernel doesn't work with your chipset when doing
ACPI. Please try a newer kernel, or compiling a kernel without ACPI.

Doh! :)
Is this because it is relatively new and support would be likely in the
nearish future? (6 months or so) or some other reason?
I'd love to help add support, but unfortunately I don't think I'd be
able to :(
