Since no driver is currently available for internal midi with the
cs46xx driver,
I must use timidity to have a midi port to open.
I dont have an external midi device but its connector is detected and
occupies the standard first port, 64:0.
is there a way to disable it, to free the first port ?

Hello,
Recently I've been having problems with the ownership/permissions of the
/dev/. I'm not sure how and when it started happening.
The devices take on the ownership of who logs on; eg if I log on, the
devices are setup as, for example,

hi, i'm a total newbie, i've seen your post about
your problem, i found out there was a known issue about nforce2, alsa and ide

i found there was a patch that solve ide issues in
kernel 2.4.21pre4 and more, i also found alsa kernel patch that solve alsa

I have compiled it as instructed for that card on the website and installed.

Thanks, that did the trick! I knew it was something stupid!
Note to others: When using the alsamixer, look at the top of the
bars, if it says MM the channel is muted. Hit 'M' and unmute it.

Title: RC7 and ENS 1371 hanging with Alsalib but not OSS
Has anyone else been experiencing hangs using RC7 and the Ensoniq 1371.
So far it works under OSS emulation, weird, but hangs consuming lots of

Check if the channels arent muted using alsamixer. They are muted by
default.
Hint : Upgrade to the rc7 RPMS. did you use rpms from
psyche.freshrpms.net ?

I am sure I am overlooking something stupid.
I see no errors in my log files, and everything is
installed correctly (I think). But I have no sound.
I am using RedHat 8.0. I used the alsa RPMS from
freshrpms.net. After install, I used aumix to adjust
volumes. I installed the alsa plugin for xmm

Are the specs known at the moment ?
I had a look into the OSS cs46xx source and have seen it comes from
ALSA.

You shouldn't be able to, as they are not regular files on a "real"
filesystem. Just reboot and as long as no ALSA modules are loaded,
nothing should appear in that directo
