Hi Mathy and alsa-users,
Thanks for the reply!
I've tried your modules.conf and I still have the same issues.
It works sporadically, but I still get the same "device or driver busy"
error message for xmms and realplayer. I get system sounds under KDE
(backspace beeps etc) I can play audio CDs,
I have an Intel8x0 card using Alsa 0.9rc3 on RH 7.2. I have compiled and
all is good. I am wondering if bass abd tone controls are particular to some
cards or I need an option in my modules.conf.
modules.conf:
#ALSA section
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
options snd snd
To those who helped me, thanks.
Matt, you were right; there were a couple other things i needed to do
that I couldn't quite find.
Did some research and found some more detailed instructions on making the
/etc/modules.conf and .asoundrc file, and some other stuff. THAT I found
online and possibl

Just sort of curious why you're going with a Dio and Flying Cow rather
than something like a Delta 44. I can't imagine it's that much cheaper,
although I haven't checked.

The ens1371 isn't a PNP card - it's PCI - so you shouldn't need to be
playing with ISA PNP tools. Just configure and build t

Andy,
I have no cables from this CDROM drive to any sound card in this system.
Windows Media Player plays CDs digitally under Win ME also. I get no clicks
and pops at all when hitting any key under Win ME, nor when moving Windows
around.
Under Linux I'm getting clicks every time I hit num_l

yes. i just ran it again an hour ago, same problem.
I notice when gdm2 starts(or X), i hear a sound pop, like some daemon is
starting.
however, i "esd" or "arts" is not listed in processes.

I'm using alsa with audigy, and real player and other oss programs won't
work.
I get this also...
[root@localhost lunarbard]# cat la.wav > /dev/dsp
cat: write error: Invalid argument
[root@localhost lunarbard]#
oss modules do not load unless i do it manually
despite this in modules.conf

Hi,
I am quite desperate... I have an board with an Ensonic 1373 chipset and
analog audio is working fine with the kernel module from the 2.4.19
kernel and ALSA snd-ens1371. In the soundcard matrix at alsa-project.org

Andy,
Thanks for responding. I'm glad you follow this list.
I understand the basic issue with the clicks as you explain it, although
I'm somewhat surprised that it is happening this much. Possibly it's only
this Linux system? Why should I hear more clicks playing CDs under Linux on

this is an alsaplayer problem. It probably misdetects the allowed values
for number of periods. I'll check this out.
