OK, Im new to the list and I dont understand the nomenclature.
The INSTALL file in the alsa-driver mentiones the option
--with-sequencer
but I havent a clue what a sequencer is.
How about a quick explanation.

Dear all,
I'm pretty new to the whole alsa thing, but I thought I'd give it a go
with my new sound card, a Hercules Fortissimo II, which I believe should
be using the cs46xx driver.
I'm using debian, so I got the debian asla packages (0.9+0beta10-6) and
built them for my kernel (2.4.18 with the

The one you want is "snd-emu10k1". The older modules used the "snd-card"
naming, so you should be able to clean up you modules.conf by removing the
extra "alias snd-card-emu10k1 snd-emu10k1", and changing the initial alias (you

Altho I seem to have no "snd-card-emu1
Dear ALSA-Experts,
Brief Background
I've been quitely working away for several weeks learning about Video4Linux
and the ALSA drivers. My goal is to turn my Linux server into a TiVo like
Video Capture Device. Currently, I can watch TV with sound, and Capture
Video (minus sound).
ALSA 0.9.0beta12, running on Libranet 2.0 (that's Debian testing,
running kernel 2.4.16)
I downloaded the latest ALSA; compiled and installed. Just as I always
did under Mandrake. And I have sound.
What I don't have is alsamixer working. I get:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for defaul
