Yep thats what it says, kernel troubles. I am not completely sure it's alsa's
fault, but as you see, the snd-card-intel8x0 and snd-pcm-oss modules are
"hanging", there is no process using them.

3. You did not "make" the kernel from the source

I have installed kernel 2.4.17-8mdk together with sources. configure is
happy:
./configure --with-kernel=/usr/src/linux-2.4.17-8mdk
finds the source.
make is happy:
ALSA modules were successfully compiled.
then make install does this:
mkdir -p /lib/modules/2.4.17-8mdk/misc
rm -f /lib/modul

I use kernel 2.4.17-7mdk from mandrake cooker. When I run make install
in the cvs retrieved alsa-driver, the modules are installed in
/lib/modules/2.4.17-7mdksecure/misc .
modprobe cannot find the modules in that directory. Am I doing something
wrong or is there something wrong with thsi kerne
