I have installed Mandrake Linux 8.0 and (briefly) 8.1 on my Gateway
PentiumIII with a SB Live value card, but can't get the sound to work.
I have installed the ALSA utilities and when I try to unmute with
amixer, I get the message "The ALSA sound driver was not detected in

FYI, I'm having problems recording with an emu10k1 with 0.9.0beta8a.
Though I get no complaints from the application, the audio track of the
video clips I'm recording is completely empty... I set Line to 66%, mark
it for Capture, and set IG

Hi.
Was wondering if S/PDIF Out (and In, although not as necessary for me)
would work with ALSA if I got a bracket card -- like the Hoontech SB DB
II/III?
Best wishes,

Hello!
I've big problems making my ESS1869 (driver snd-card-es18xx) run. I'm
using alsa-drivers 0.5.11 together with kernel 2.2.19.
All modules seem to be correctly compiled and loaded. But any program
(xmms 1.2.4, xmms 1.2.5, mp3blaster) accessing /dev/dsp seems to hang
(producing no sound). Whe

Hi
If someone wants to know: The error was a symlink. I don`t know why, but
/usr/include/sound was a symlink to /usr/src/alsa-driver-0.9.0beta6/sound/.

I upgraded from beta7 to the latest version two days ago (I have an SB PCI 512 -- same as SBLive). When I did so, although no problems show up with the standard 4 MIDI ports, I get no sound when trying to play to them.
I wasn't sure if the problem was in the fact that sfxload is the recommended w

Hi,
I'm wondering how to allow applications to use the soundcard while it's
already in use by another application?
The default seems to be that the second application that needing the
soundcard is suspended until the first appication releases it.
I'm using alsa-driver 0.9.0 beta 7.

Using cvs I can listen to both front and rear channels of this card. I get the same
signal through both channels if I specify hw:1,0 or hw:1,2. hw:1,1 does not work here
but I assume that is the spdif out which my version of this card does not have.
What is the likelyhood of being able to spec
