alsa-driver-0.9.0beta8a and alsa-lib-0.9.0beta8a solved my problem in
compiling alsa-lib-0.9.0beta8.

I am using an SB Live 5.1, and successfully installed
the ALSA drivers. The problem I'm having is I can't figure
out the magic incantation to make amixer enable WAVE and
other outputs through the S/P-DIF connector on the card.
