I have an ALS4000 sound card. i have downloaded alsa-driver-0.5.11.tar.bz2
which supports my soundcard. I looked at the INSTALL file which says "You must
turn on sound support (soundcore module)". I have no idea how to do that?
You help is very important since I am a newbie for linux.

I am experiencing problems with the soundcard on my Satellite 3000.
The soundcard installed is an intel8x0. The first problem is that from
time to time the soundcard is not recognized at all:

I own Dell's Inspiron 8100 with Maestro 3 in it. I have installed ALSA
drivers and they work -> all sounds are enabled. The only problem I had
so far is the noise that I can hear on the background. This noise is
especially loud when my hard drive kicks in. Any help is greatly
